May 19th, 2010, Apia: Digicel and MobiMedia have awarded five lucky winners at the end of Samoa’s Biggest Fishing Competition.

The promotion commenced on the 17 April as the first mobile fishing competition launched in Samoa. Competitors texted the word FISH to 204 to see what their lucky catch was and each fish caught came with pre-determined points which created a ranking for every player.

This set off the wave to what kicked off major excitement for over seven thousand Digicel customers.

“Digicel are constantly coming up with innovative ways for our customers to use their mobile phones.” Stated Tala’i Jr. Lene, Head of Marketing for Digicel Samoa. “Mobile phones are no longer limited to calling, texting and sending/receiving emails. Interactive games, downloads and even account balances can now be accessed at the push of a button. It’s a whole new experience and innovation at its best.” Lene continued.

The competition lasted for 30 days and ended on 15 May.

The overall standings and prizes for the competition were:

1st  Tommy Jr. Scanlan Xbox 360, 2 Xbox games and $200 mobile credit
2nd Tyson Scanlan PlayStation Portable, 1 PSP game,  and $200 mobile credit
3rd Faavale Lei Sam Nokia 2600 and $200 mobile credit
4th  Fuatino Semisi Samsung E1070 and $200 mobile credit
5th   Samsung E1070 and $200 mobile credit

In addition to the above prizes a total of $4000 worth of credit was given away as instant prizes to 800 lucky players during the competition. This brings the prize total to over $7000.

Because of its huge popularity, “Samoa’s Biggest Fishing Competition will be re-launched again in the near future.” Said Lene. “We aim keep our customers entertained and seeing that the promotion was a huge success with many, is more reason to bring it back.” He ends.
